John Ter Vincent

Nigeria

Songwriter and Singer

My name is John Ter Vincent, I am a Nigerian songwriter and singer; a member of a sib-musical group known as DE TER.

I am a graduate of zoology with interest in neglected tropical diseases. Growing up, I loved music and movies. And I believe I change my world by always doing something different that would improve my society.

What inspired you to enter the World NTD Day Story telling competition?

My inspiration stems from the fact that the World NTD Day story telling competition presents an opportunity for me to lend my voice to the struggle to end the neglect and beat NTDs. My song teaches the A to Z about NTD and is a call for action and I believe through this competition it will enjoy global recognition, that’s great for me. Children in American, Asia and other continents will sing the song.

Why does fighting NTDs matter to you?

Fighting NTD matters to me because I can’t sit back, watch and do nothing while people die and suffer from avoidable disease conditions. Enough of the death and deformation and dysfunctional cases linked to NTD.

How do you intend on continuing the fight against NTDs after this competition?

As a songwriter and singer, I hope to keep producing songs that would help people- policy makers, youths, women and children understand NTDs, and curate national discussion. Working with my band, DE TER, we have already written 3 other songs on NTD all we shall need is promotional support for the songs.

What would be your request to your country’s leaders regarding fighting NTDs?

I wish President Muhammadu Buhari would prioritize NTD and give it a fraction of the support given to COVID, malaria and tuberculosis.
